The Department of Arts of the University of Bologna is proud to announce the conference

"CREATIVE KOREA: Exploring Contemporary Korean Cultural Industries and Cultural Production".

In recent years, Korean cultural industries have established themselves as among the most dynamic and successful at the global level, both artistically and commercially. Supported by a series of worldwide successes, the Korean Wave has become one key example of non-Western cultural production that was able to engage global audiences, to influence the way in which they consume pop culture and to adapt to the transformative changes brought by new social and digital media technologies.

The conference will focus on exploring the different aspects of contemporary Korean cultural production, with an inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary perspective, including the many different sectors that compose the Korean Wave: Film and TV Production; Music; Performing Arts; Visual Art; Comics, Graphic novels and Webtoons; Animation; Videogames and E-Sports; Fashion and Food.

The aim of the conference is to analyze the multiple factors that have made this growth possible, the specific characteristics of cultural industries and cultural production in Korea, the different influences that shaped this production, the socio-political and economic effects and impact of the spread of Korean cultural products both inside and outside Korea.

SoKEN 2022 - Social Sciences Korean Studies European Network Annual Conference - University of Bologna

Korea in Transition: Political, social and economic challenges in the post-COVID era

The SoKEN annual conference in 2022 will be held at the University of Bologna, with the support of the Academy of Korean Studies through the Korean Studies Promotion Service, and in collaboration with the Asia Institute.

The conference will focus on the recent developments on the Korean Peninsula in relation to economic, political, and social aspects. In particular, we welcome contribution dealing with the post-pandemic challenges on the Korean peninsula, both from a domestic and international perspective, and the political dynamics towards the upcoming presidential election. Topics of interest may include: the management of the COVID emergency, the social and economic consequences of the COVID crisis, recent political developments in South Korea, changes and continuity in inter-Korean relations, the regional and global positioning of South and North Korea and their foreign policy strategies.

Joint Student Program in Korean Studies 2022-2023 UNIBO & UCC

The UNIVERSITY of BOLOGNA and UNIVERSITY COLLEGE CORK, for the second year, has organized an exchange program for students interested in Korean Studies for the academic year 2022-2023.

ACTIVITIES:

Monthly meetings for the preparation of an academic article. 1st MEETING: December 16, 2022.
Participation in a WORKSHOP ON CONTEMPORARY KOREAN CULTURE conducted by Professor KIM SUK-YOUNG (UCLA) in March 2023.
Participation in an INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE at the Department of the Arts (UNIBO) with students from the University College Cork (UCC) in May 2023.
