Emerging realities from The Netherlands and Italy - proiezione cortometraggi e dibattito
Date: 12 DECEMBER 2023 from 17:00 to 20:00
Event location: Teatro del Baraccano (Via del Baraccano, 2)
On Tuesday 12 December at 17:00, an event will be held at the Teatro del Baraccano in which Asian diasporic experiences in Europe will be compared. The aim of the meeting is to promote reflection on the problems related to the representation of 'other' citizens in Italy, Holland and other Western countries, discussing with first and second generation exponents active in cultural production.
The keynote speaker will be Doris Yeung, founder and director of the Cinemasia Film Festival (Amsterdam), which will reach its 20th edition in 2024. Doris will give an introductory talk entitled 'Asian diasporic film in Europe'. This will be followed by the screening of several short films dealing with the representation of people of Asian origin. The films will be Italian premieres as they will only be shown in the next edition of the Festival (March 2024).
The meeting will also be attended by two film-makers of Chinese origin based in Italy. Xin Alessandro Zheng (a young Chinese filmmaker based in Milan) will present his debut feature 'Where the leaves fall' (already presented at the Venice Film Festival). Zheng Ningyuan (artist and activist, founder of the Wuxu Collective, Bologna) will present excerpts from the documentary filmed together with members of the Chinese community in Prato.
The meeting is the second event organised on the themes of 'identity, representation and activism of citizens of Sino/Asian origin in Europe' as part of Fotogrammi cinesi / 画框 / Chinese Frames - a look at contemporary Chinese realities from the global to the particular, a cycle of events curated by the Chair of Chinese Language and Literature.
