What is UniBoAT Get to know the project and jump aboard!

UniBoAT is an educational project: the team is made up of students from every academic field who have built a high-efficiency and clean-energy catamaran, which they competed with in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge of 2021 and of 2022.

The project’s annual goal is to participate in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (MEBC): an international competition in which universities and companies from the nautical world take place to support the research and development of sustainable technologies, favoring the transition to electric propulsion. All this shows that navigation that is respectful of seas and that doesn’t penalize speed is, in fact, possible.

The technical characteristics of the catamaran

Futura is a one-seater racing catamaran which integrates different energy sources: hydrogen converted in electrical energy through a fuel cell, self-made next generation li-ion batteries and a high-efficiency photovoltaic system.

One victory after the other

• The team participated in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (MEBC), which was held in the Principality of Monaco between July 4-9 2022, winning all the Energy Class competitions and getting the jury prize for the best Tech Talk
• UniBoAT received the Design Innovation Award 2021 at Salone Nautico Internazionale in Genova, which took place between May 18-22 2021
• Futura was awarded the FIV Prize (Special Environment Prize) by the committee XI Zona FIV on December 19 2021
• The team participated in the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (MEBC), which was held in the Principality of Monaco between July 6-10 2021, winning all the Energy Class competitions and getting the jury prize for the best Tech Talk

Once you’re in the team, your commitment will be important: you will dedicate one year to the project, working in close contact with the other members of your division.

It will be a year full of alignment meetings among divisions, studying and researching to design and build the boat components that you were assigned.

But not only this, but the experience in the project will also provide you with valuable skills for the work world. The teams that navigated with us now work in next generation companies in the automation world.
