Challenge

La Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (MEBC) is a competition that takes place every year in the Principality of Monaco which hosts competing universities and companies from 21 countries. There are the racing categories:

• Solar Class: the classic race among boats powered by solar energy, which has existed since the first edition of the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge held in 2014;
• Energy Class: a race for which the Yacht Club de Monaco provides the same hulls to all the participants, challenging young engineers to design the pilot’s cabin and the most efficient and durable propulsion system, using only zero-emission energy sources;
• Open Sea Class: a race open mainly to exhibitors of the Yacht Club of Monaco Marina and to electric-motor powered boats which have been fully built and are ready to enter the market. It’s an endurance race that emphasizes the autonomy of electric-motorized boats, having them compete along a 30km route from Ventimiglia to Monaco.

The UniBoAT team participates in the Energy Class

The main rules are:

- All boats use the same base hulls

- No combustion propulsion

- Maximum energy onboard 10 kWh

- Maximum solar surface 3 m2

In this competition there are the following races:

- Endurance

- Speed

- Slalom

- Championship (with qualifying laps)

A score is assigned to the teams based on their qualification for each race. The winner of the competition is the team that totalizes the highest score.

The UniBoAT team won all the races of the 2021 and 2022 competitions.
