Frequency and class schedule

The attendance obligations Collegiates have to fulfil in order to maintain Collegiate status.

Frequency

According to the  Didactic Regulations, Collegiates must carry out 72 hours of educational activity in the Collegio. Starting from the 2025/26 academic year, attendance obligations will be fulfilled according to this scheme:

  • 2 integrated courses for a total of 8 credits (48 hours total)
  •  4 college seminars, each worth 1 credit (24 hours total) or, alternatively, 2 seminars and 1 lab for transversal skills (18 hours total + 12 hours of practical exercises).

Students enrolled in second-cycle degree programs (including the last two years of a single-cycle master's degree program) must choose:

  • 1 integrated course for a total of 4 credits (24 hours)
  • 7 seminars of 1 credit each (42 hours total) or alternatively 5 seminars and 1 workshop for transversal skills (36 hours total + 12 hours of practical exercises)
  • 4 ISA Lectures or alternatively 1 seminar.

The seminars chosen must include those taught by your tutor. Extra credits may be added up to a maximum of 5 credits per year.

ISA lectures relevant for the fulfilment of attendance obligations in AY 2025/26 are those scheduled from the 1st of October 2025 to the 31st of October 2026

Absence notification and recoveries

Courses attendance is mandatory.

However, it is possible to be absent from Collegio Superiore’s didactic activities in the following cases and for the indicated amount of time:

  • Integrated courses: 2 hours per module for each 24-hour training activity (maximum 6 hours total);
  • Seminar: 2 hours of classroom teaching or 4 hours of laboratory work;
  • Soft Skills Workshops: 2 hours of classroom teaching and 4 hours of hands-on practice.

The attendance check (including for those following via Microsoft Teams) will be made by the Professor.

Possible absences must be communicated, by the end of the class, by sending an email to the course Coordinator/Professor holding the lecture and Cc’ing both the Tutor and the Collegio’s Secretariat. If this email isn’t sent, the absence will have to be made up with the same terms specified for the absences exceeding the given threshold.

If the given threshold is exceeded, a justification of the absence will be required in addition to notification.

The proposal for the recovery of unattended activities:

  • must be agreed in advance with the Coordinator/Professor and the Tutor;
  • must be sent via email to the Collegio’s Secretariat, Cc’ing the Director (direzione.collegio@unibo.it), the Coordinator/Professor and the Tutor;
  • must clearly indicate the number of hours to make up for (A) and the substitutive educational content (B).

For the make-up hours (A) the Dean can approve the possible make-up proposal with the attendance of other didactic activities within the Collegio or the Institute of Advanced Studies.

As far as substitutive educational content is concerned (B) the Professor is the one in charge and will evaluate if a make-up is possible, by identifying the most suitable didactic solution (also taking into account the final exam).

Making up of absences for lecture hours has to occur within the Collegiate’s disciplinary area (humanities-social area or scientific-technological area) and the attendance of “extradisciplinary” lectures is discouraged for Collegiates belonging to the same subject area of such lectures.

If there are no lectures available, Collegiates can make up for their absences by attending ISA lectures, and as a further alternative, other educational activities.

Lesson conduct

The courses will be taught in presence. Collegiates abroad will have the possibility to attend integrated courses and lectures through Microsoft Teams, if no other substitutive activities can be identified and approved along with the Tutor.

Class Schedule

Unless otherwise stated, integrated courses (educational activities) are usually held from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m., lectures from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., the transversal skills workshops are generally from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, and the ISA Lectures from 5:30 pm.

Location

Classes are held at Palazzo Marchesini (Via Marsala 26, Bologna).
Some workshop activities will be held in other places and times.

Further information and updates on times and locations can be found on the calendar downloadable from the "HIGHLIGHTS" section or in the details of each course/teaching.
