Guidelines for recycling collection

Let's put every waste in its right place!

Separate waste collection is the first step in making our University more sustainable, but it is also a legal obligation.

Help us reduce the amount of materials going to landfill, save energy and recover raw materials, in a circular economy.

Why recycle?

Producing 1 ton of virgin paper requires 15 trees, 440000 litres of water and 7600 kWh of electricity, while producing 1 ton of recycled paper requires only

  • 1800 litres of water
  • 2700 kWh of electricity

in addition, about 1308 kg of CO2 eq. emissions are saved.

The plastic recycling process:

  • saves on virgin raw materials
  • requires less energy
  • generates less climate-changing gas emissions into the atmosphere

Globally, for every ton of plastic recycled each year, 3.5 billion barrels of oil could be saved and CO2 emissions reduced by about 2 tons.

  • Glass is the only existing packaging material that is 100% recyclable (Coreve).
  • Producing glass from recycled material releases approximately 56% less carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than production from virgin material (Legambiente). In Italy in 2020, the total recycling of glass in the production of new packaging reduced CO2 emissions into the atmosphere by 2.2 million tonnes (Coreve).
  • In Italy in 2020, the glass recycling process saved 3.7 million tonnes of virgin raw materials for the production of new packaging.
