History of the Collegio

History

Founded in 1998, since 2019 it has been directed by Professor Beatrice Fraboni.
The Collegio Superiore was founded in 1998 under Rector Fabio Alberto Roversi Monaco as a College of Excellence. Since 1998 it has been overseen by a succession of five Deans.

The Deans

Beatrice Fraboni
Since 2019 the Collegio has been directed by Professor Beatrice Fraboni.

Luca Ciotti
From October 2012 to July 2019, the Collegio Superiore was directed by astrophysicist Luca Ciotti.
Thanks to his efforts, and with the fundamental support and political direction of the Rectors Prof. Ivano Dionigi and Prof. Francesco Ubertini (since November 1, 2015), he started a first revision of the Regulations of the Collegio Superiore to implement the provisions of the Ministerial Decree of 2013 (n. 338) regarding the Accreditation of Schools and Colleges of Higher Education established by Universities. He implemented the computerisation of the main processes and services of the Collegio Superiore (student careers, admission tests, educational programming). Under his direction, two recurring calls for applications were made to the faculty of the University: one for inclusion in the Register of Tutors and one for proposals for dedicated teaching activities of the Collegio.

Paolo Leonardi
From 2006 to 2012 the Collegio was directed by the philosopher Paolo Leonardi, Dean of the Collegio and of the Institute for Advanced Studies. Thanks to his perseverance, with the important support of the Rector Ivano Dionigi, the ISS entered the new University Statute in 2012. In Article 26, paragraph 2, the Collegio is described as "the tool to enhance the merit of students in the three cycles of study" and to offer "training courses of high qualification and interdisciplinary value, complementary to those offered by the structures".

Dario Braga
From 2001 to 2006 the Dean of the Collegio Superiore was the chemist Dario Braga. With support from the Rector Pier Ugo Calzolari, he defined the location of the Collegio and organised its educational offering, allowing Collegiali the integration of their learning paths with curricular and seminarian courses. He defined the role of Tutors, developed the recognition of Collegio inside and outside of the athenaeum, and began integrating the Collegio with other Institutes of Excellence of the University of Bologna, most notably with the Institute of Advanced Studies.

Andrea Battistini
From its foundation in 1998 to 2001, the Dean of the Collegio was the Italianist Andrea Battistini, who initiated the activities of the Collegio, creating the interdisciplinary approach that characterises it today.
