An overview of the key occasions in the SIRIUS project's history
Born out of the collaboration and dialogue between the projects SIRIUS - Management Strategies for cultural heritage at risk (active in the PNRR PE05 CHANGES - Cultural Heritage Active Innovation for the Next-Gen Sustainable Society) and RESTART - Resilience and Territorial Development, Heritage at Risk and its Sageguard (financed within the framework of the University initiative Alma CaReS - Climate Change, Resilience, Sustainability), the Study Day addressed the theme of territorial strategies and synergies aimed at the prediction, prevention and management of natural and anthropic risks impacting on cultural heritage. The event is part of a larger research and collaboration initiative that has been active for several years in the Ravenna area and that has been promoted by the Department of Cultural Heritage. This initiative aims, in a medium-long term perspective, at the development of a shared methodology for the management of territorial risks that may compromise the conservation of cultural heritage. Special attention was paid to the theme of active citizenship, with actions intended to stimulate a shared reflection on how the deprivation of historical and cultural evidence has direct repercussions on the territory and the community, resulting in the disappearance of identity values and social cohesion. But even more, the event emphasised how cultural heritage can assume a value of great impact in the dissemination of the 'culture of risk'.
The Watch out for Risk! Educational Laboratory for Unijunior, the first Children's University in Italy, was delivered by SIRIUS on May 4, 2024.
With the help of games and interactive activities, the initiative was designed to foster, among children aged 8 to 13, a better understanding of risks impacting on cultural heritage.
The project action that includes this kind of activities is devoted to the development and spread of a risk culture, even among the youngest: from risk agent identification to population impact and cultural heritage consequences, the "young citizens of tomorrow" will play a crucial role in building a more resilient, participatory, and sustainable community.
On the occasion of the European Researchers' Night 2023, the students of the "Dante Alighieri" High School of Ravenna presented the projects developed for the PCTO (Paths for Transversal Skills and Orientation) I-CARE path, dedicated to the topic of communication and the involvement of citizens in the safeguarding and protection of cultural heritage at risk. The initiative met the following objectives: increasing the civic values of young citizens; provide conceptual tools to recognize risk factors for community and cultural heritage; promote an active role in the process of care and conservation of heritage; implement knowledge and awareness of the UN 2030 Agenda.
In celebration of the 50th anniversary of the UNESCO Convention (1972), which was established to safeguard the world's cultural and natural heritage, the University of Bologna organised a series of events that involved all MultiCampus locations and were coordinated with the Emilia-Romagan region's major Institutions. During the first conference, which was held in Ravenna's Palazzo dei Congressi, we discussed how SIRIUS can help with UNESCO heritage restoration, conservation, valorisation, digitalization, and science.
The public presentation of the outcomes from the first year of the SIRIUS Project - Strategies for the management of cultural heritage at risk was held on May 13, 2022, in the Department of Cultural Heritage's Conference Room. The day represented an opportunity for discussion, sharing and reflection with local bodies and authorities responsible for the protection and safeguarding of the territory and cultural heritage, thanks to the participation of the Department of culture, school, university, afam, mosaic and youth policies of the Municipality of Ravenna, the Department for the coordination of investment policies for the ecological transition, PAESC (waste, energy efficiency, mobility, environmental authorizations), social policies, housing policies, civil protection, the Civil Protection Office of the Municipality of Ravenna, the Agency for territorial security and civil protection of the Emilia-Romagna Region, the Environment and Territory Protection Service of the Municipality of Ravenna, the Civil Protection Volunteers Association RC Mistral, the Superintendency of Archaeological, Historical-Artistic and Landscape Heritage for the provinces of Ravenna, Forlì-Cesena and Rimini and the International Ceramics Museum of Faenza.
