You will need to enclose a statement of purpose. Letters of recommendation, if any, are optional.

What is a statement of purpose?

It is a 700-1000 word-long letter of intent or research statement (references, if any, not included in word count). You have two options:

In option A, you should typically (1) introduce yourself, your interests and motivations, i.e., who are you and what do you want to do? (2) discuss the relevance of your recent and current activities—why are you the right candidate for the program? and (3) develop your academic interests (what do you want to do in the future?).

Alternatively, in option B, you may present the research topic you want to study, explain why and suggest how you plan to do it.
