How to philosophize freely from within a nation? On the early reception of Spinoza's Tractatus Theologico-Politicus

What are the conditions for us to philosophize more freely? In which community does our debate take place? Does that community really exist or is it imaginary? And what about the debate? Can the freedom of philosophizing actually reach something real? In this presentation I will start from the early reception of Spinoza's Tractatus Theologico-Politicus in order to explore these questions. More precisely, I will investigate Spinoza's notion of the nation as a tool to philosophize more freely on the history of philosophy, on culture and identity, on contemporary society and politics.
