Series of webinars on commercial urban farming jointly organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), with the supporto of FoodE.
Most World cities feature different forms of agriculture within their urban and peri-urban lands. In recent years, municipalities have produced a number of policies to foster and promote new urban agriculture projects in their city plans. Policies are being implemented in European and Mediterranean cities, promoting different experiences, including:
- Rooftop Agriculture;
- Social Urban and Peri-Urban farming;
- Agricultural parks;
- Vertical farming.
We invite you to join the second interactive e-dialogue of a nine-part series: " Urban agriculture for circular cities: Space and logistic opportunities", organized by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), with the support of the European H2020 project Food Systems in European Cities (FoodE) and in collaboration with the sister actions “Fostering the Urban food System Transformation through Innovative Living Labs Implementation (FUSILLI)”, “Co-creating resIlient and susTaInable food systEms towardS FOOD2030 (Cities2030)”, “Building pathways towards FOOD 2030-led urban food policies (FOOD TRAILS)”, “Food System Hubs Innovating towards Fast Transition by 2030 (FoodShift2030)” and “FOOD and Local, Agricultural and Nutritional Diversity (FoodLand)”.
This new e-dialogue - part of the ongoing FAO-EBRD technical package to support the agribusiness sector - aims to identify successful urban farming policies and initiatives developed by municipalities that could also foster commercial Urban Farming. Hearing the voice of municipalities, already engaged with urban farming, you will discuss the policies and regulation changes that enable public and private investments in urban agriculture and how the economic, social and environmental dimensions of sustainability were targeted.
The University of Bologna Alma Mater Studiorum will moderate an interactive discussion with representative of municipalities that have elaborated city plans to encourage and foster social and commercial urban agriculture. The organizing committee involves representatives from different European Universities and Research Centres, including the University of Bologna Alma Mater Studiorum (Italy), ILS-Research Institute for Regional and Urban Development (Germany), Wageningen University and Research (The Netherlands), AgroParisTech (France), the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona (Spain), the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Sciences (Hungary) and the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece).
The e-dialogue will be moderated by
