The University of Belgrade has two centuries of existence and it has registered during time a constant increase in the number of students ranging from the about 50000 of the early 1960s to the 89.482 undergraduates enrolled in the academic year 2009/10.
It is a member of European and International University Association and it was also included into various forms of inter-academic cooperation (such as TEMPUS projects and UNIADRON initiative). Meanwhile, international teacher and student exchange was intensified. Having signed the Bologna Declaration (19 June 1999), the University of Belgrade officially joined the European Higher Education Area. The need to innovate the training offer and to improve student soft skills, the main goal of PASS, had led to the choice of the Institute for Multidisciplinary Research (IMSI) as a member of PASS, with the activation of bilateral exchanges of PhD students.
