The University of Santa Catarina State (Universidade Estadual de Santa Catarina - UDESC) was created in 1965 as a multi campus facility offering 55 degree courses, 30 master's degree courses and 12 doctoral courses in 12 colleges located in 9 several cities in the State attended by over 15,000 students. It is classified as the fourth best university in Brazil with a team of highly qualified teachers. It presents 142 research groups certified by the National Council of Scientific Research and Technological Development (CNPq). The "AgroEcology and Plant Protection" Research Group also conducts advanced research in the homeopathy sector in collaboration with UNIBO. Bilateral exchanges of doctoral students are active.
