The Product Development Project is one of Aalto University’s longest-running multidisciplinary courses, organised by the Aalto Design Factory in Helsinki.

PDP is a nine-month international open innovation programme run by the Aalto Design Factory at Aalto University in Helsinki, designed to foster innovative solutions by focusing on the user experience, their needs and the context in which they operate.

Multidisciplinary and multi-university student teams (comprising 5 to 8 members each), supported by lecturers, researchers and innovation experts, will respond to challenges set by companies through a programme consisting of a series of mainly online training modules, designed to help students acquire complementary and supplementary skills.

The programme also includes two compulsory mobility periods at the Aalto Design Factory in Helsinki, the costs of which will be covered by a financial contribution from the University.

1) PD6 (September–October): a one-week full-time mobility period at the start of the programme.

2) PDP Gala (May): a final day for the presentation of prototypes, preceded by one week of preparatory work.
