Asclepieion Gate

Located almost in front of the Shrine of Asclepius, towards the west end of the southern encircling walls, it is framed by semi-pillars which still preserved the cavities of the closing bar on both sides. The gate is preserved only in its lower part, so we can just assume that it was arched. It was first built as a temple entrance, however, during the monumentalization of the Sanctuary, between the Hellenistic and Augustan period, a vestibule was added to it, preceded by another gate in opus quadratum
