The language of chatbots and algorithms in the anthropocene: A rhetorical approach

Chatbots are everywhere these days. But what are they really? Why are they biased? And why do they hallucinate? In this talk, we’ll address these questions as we explore the algorithmic infrastructure of chatbots, which will help us understand them as “artificial rhetorical agents” with incredible potential. That potential could be harnessed to strengthen democratic cultures or destroy them, just as it could help or hinder efforts to address the existential crises of the Anthropocene.
