Bioconjugation

The group is active in surface modification and bioconjugation of biomaterials by application of smart strategies: surface functionalization, incorporation of suitable biomolecules and ligands, ‘ad hoc’ synthesized functional polymers. A careful surface characterization is also performed, through morphological, spectroscopic and physical characterization techniques.

Main research activities are focused on:

  • use of atmospheric pressure plasma for surface functionalization
  • surface conjugation of antibodies and peptides to fabricate affinity membranes for isolation/depletion of target elements in circulating cellular matter
  • beta-lactams conjugation to scaffolds to promote cell adhesion mediated by integrins
