This line of research is developed crosswise the Conservation Science Laboratory and the Study Center for the Art Work of the Department of Cultural Heritage, referring to multidisciplinary skills, models, methods, and tools that involve both the historical-artistic and the diagnostic – analytical as well as technical-legal field, whose synergy allows to manage the complexity of the topic. The aim is to achieve, through the use of stylistic, critical-historical, documentary, technical-historical and scientific analyzes, an all-encompassing vision of artifacts, with particular reference to the conservation status, materials, executive technique and the creative process of pictorial works. The research group, inserted into an international dimension, carries out not only wide campaigns of scientific analyses aimed at deepening the painting technique of several artists, but also develops an innovative protocol that, involving both the history of art and the scientific methodologies, allows to carry out an evaluation as objective as possible of artworks for the purpose of authentication. The team is engaged in research, teaching and consulting activities.
