A space where knowledge blends, cultivating competences that help develop new entrepreneurial ideas: AlmaLabor is a Maker Space – a prototyping laboratory for creating prototypes for your business idea, as well as a Co-working and training space.

Makerspace - prototyping laboratory

At the Makerspace you can create and test prototypes of innovative products, with the support of specialised technical staff who help you to use cutting-edge materials and machinery, including 3D printers, laser cutters, milling machines, thermoforming systems and woodworking tools.

Who can use the Makerspace:

  • Students who:
    - apply via the Call for applications for access to create prototypes as part of business development projects (costs covered up to maximum €200, with access to technical and Business Model support, equipment and consumables);
    - study topics relating to the creation, development and analysis of prototypes during an internship (practical laboratory work or post-graduate) or for the preparation of a dissertation;
    - are enrolled in the “Entrepreneurship Bologna” and “Innovate by doing” courses;
    - take part in the calls for specific workshops, or students with a prototype to create for potential business development.
  • Teachers, researchers and PhD students working on a design idea linked to research and innovation activities;
  • Staff of start-ups or spin-offs accredited by or participated in by the University of Bologna.

Use of the machinery is subject to a competitive discounted fee, similar to those applied by other similar services.

Opening times

Makerspace – Prototyping laboratory
from Monday to Friday: 11:00-13:00 and 13:30-17:00 (entrance on Viale Carlo Pepoli 3/2).

How to access the Makerspace

To access, you must fill in a registration form online; you will then be contacted directly to discuss your needs and agree on the equipment needed, which in turn must be booked online. You must repeat the online registration procedure for each new project you carry out at the Makerspace.

Co-working

Almalabor also provided equipped spaces for co-working, with work stations, meeting rooms and Wi-Fi connection.

The area also hosts training programmes, awareness and mentoring events aimed at supporting the start of innovative projects and structuring business ideas before presenting them on the market.

The Almalabor Co-working spaces are available exclusively to:

  • Students who:
    - study topics relating to the creation, development and analysis of prototypes during an internship (practical laboratory work or post-graduate) or for the preparation of a dissertation;
    - are enrolled in the “Entrepreneurship Bologna” and “Innovate by doing” courses;
    - take part in the calls for specific workshops, or students with a prototype to create for potential business development.
  •  Teachers, researchers, PhD students, fellow researchers presenting an idea for a research and innovation project aimed at developing projects with an impact on the market, including through entrepreneurial projects, or by participating in initiatives in support of business development as a means to valorise research.
