Monitoring organisational and didactic innovation

This research project involves monitoring the application of the school organizational model DADA within the framework of research-based teacher professional development work conducted in recent years with a number of upper secondary schools in Rome. The research will be continued through involving the nationwide DADA network by involving schools in other areas of Italy in order to compare approaches to monitoring outcomes in terms of teacher and school leader professional development.

Building a common culture for assessment practices

In the light of changing guidelines for assessment of learning in schools, this research project aims to investigate ways of integrating innovative approaches to assessment procedures and teaching methodologies. A model will be developed and implemented in a number of school networks designed to balance theoretical perspectives on assessment and shared practices co-constructed within communities of teachers.

Research-based teacher professional development for the age range 0-6

This research project foresees two separate projects for nursery and infant school staff held in different early years contexts. The first involves children’s participating in knowledge building about the natural world, while the second focuses on teacher professional development though self-evaluation procedures in early learning educational settings.

Member check: a way to promote teachers’ professional development?

This research project is part of a broader research-based teacher professional development project on Imaginative Education involving ten primary school teachers through implementing the strategy of member-check, a form of participant validation designed to improve the accuracy, credibility, validity and transferability of a study, within the perspective of promoting teacher reflexive competence and self-assessment.

Transversal competences and orientation for building personal resources and combatting dropping-out. Tools for analysis and research-based teacher professional development in upper secondary schools

This research project aims to analyse the design and implementation of Transversal competences and orientation framework in order to investigate its efficacy in terms of learner development, examine its role in the transition to university and create an open access platform for monitoring. The project will focus on analysing school curriculum documents, monitoring a number of R-TPD projects in upper secondary schools and conducting a retrospective survey involving first-year university students.

Fostering text comprehension as a way to make learning and thinking visible

This research project focuses on the dual objective of promoting reading comprehension skills and developing innovative procedures for the assessment of learning in the primary school. One action envisaged is to promote reading comprehension at primary school, especially as regards difficulties due to sociocultural disadvantage. A second action is to implement R-TPD projects refered to observing and assessing learning processes during specific reading comprehension activities.

Mathematics standardized assessment as a tool for teachers' professional development

This research project aims to develop theoretical and operative tools for exploiting the results of mathematics national assessment tests with respect to teacher professional development. The main expected outcome of the project is the development of models for pre-service and in-service mathematics teachers, based on an effective and conscious use of standardised assessments.

Aloud! Reading aloud to stop the decline of reading literacy in lower secondary schools

This research project focuses on the introduction of reading aloud in the lower secondary school and studying the benefits that can accrue. The expected outcomes of the project are improvements in reading skills, cognitive functions, and social intelligence and cognition, particularly for learners with disadvantages who generally start from lower levels of achievement.
