On October 14, the LIFE NatuReef team met with students from Novello Middle School in Ravenna for a special lesson dedicated to understanding and protecting natural beaches.
The activity, led by Eva Turicchia from the BiGeA Department – University of Bologna, in collaboration with Luca Monteleone from the Po Delta Park and the team of CIFLA – Fondazione Flaminia Innovation Centre, introduced the main topics related to coastal dynamics: the threats that put beaches at risk, the ecological role they play for biodiversity, the actions that help prevent coastal erosion, the importance of waste monitoring, and the value of oyster reefs as a natural defense.
The meeting served as a preparatory activity for the monitoring event that will take place on October 16 along the beach near the mouth of the Bevano Stream, where students will take part in a bioblitz dedicated to observing and collecting data on the coastal ecosystem. Through this experience, the students gained a deeper understanding of the concept of the “beach ecosystem”, learning how each of its components is closely connected to the marine environment and its balance.
