The proposed SCOOP intercropping systems will represent a starting point to promote the acceptance of multi-species cropping systems by farmers, consumers, breeders, etc.
The "SCOOP" consortium combines the experiences of UWM, UNIBO, AUP and CRIFIC on camelina from the agronomic, genetic and end-uses’ points of view, gained in previous and ongoing projects. UWM has also a strong background on integrated sustainability assessment, which will perfectly integrate with the competences of AUP. UNIBO has well-established relation with local organic growers and owns a dedicated center for seed separation and cleaning activities.
AUP has a long expertise on organic farming and its research teams cover also the expertise on pest and disease. CRIFIC has a long expertise in intercropping systems with different species and its highly reckon laboratories are well equipped to determine both seed quality but also to assess soil microbiome diversity. AIAB is a pioneer in Europe in the organization and development of living labs (LL) for promoting organic farming, so its expertise will be exploited also by the other partners in order to achieve the maximum impact from the SCOOP results. BIO, despite being new of European projects, is a well-established SME which is broadly expanding its organic business and will be able to deploy locally the knowledge created in the SCOOP.
The SCOOP partners are: University of Warmia and Mazury(Coordinator), Biosfera, Agricultural University of Plovdiv, UNIBO, Ass. Ita Agr. Biologica (AIAB) and Central Research Institute of Field Crops. The project is structured around 5 Work Packages.
