Resilient Citizenship

Objective 2 | Increasing citizens' awareness of the contribution cultural heritage can make to resilience

Collage of pictures: top left, a cork board with a series of cards attached with coloured pins, on the cards you can read ‘Open Process’, ‘Open knowledge’ and you can glimpse other blurred writing. Below right is a picture of a group of young people having a discussion in a university lecture room, with a computer, folders, notebooks with materials, some of them have books in their hands and one girl has a mobile phone in her hand. Bottom right: image of the Notre Dame Basilica in Paris in flames.

This second objective has a socio-cultural focus and aims at raising citizens' awareness of the contribution that cultural heritage can make to resilience.

In this perspective, RESTART will contribute to the localisation of the sustainable development objectives outlined in the Agenda 2030 Regional Strategy of the Emilia-Romagna, by putting territorial governance and citizens at the centre of change processes, supporting the achievement of objectives 4, 11 and 12.

Taking into consideration the results of the public consultation PartecipAzioni, the main positive spill-overs on territory and citizenship are to be found in the strengthening of citizens' involvement through actions that foster the knowledge of the Agenda 2030 Regional Strategy in their areas of residence, with special attention to young people.

Action 2.1 | Dissemination of knowledge

This action supports the dissemination, within the community, of a risk culture that is under the banner of the widespread dissemination of conscious and responsible behaviour to be adopted in emergency situations, for one's own safety and for a better defence of the cultural and natural heritage.

To this end, the creation and sharing of verified content is envisaged, aimed at making citizens aware of the natural and anthropogenic risks to which the cultural heritage is exposed and susceptible, with the purpose of  laying the foundations for a virtuous process of informed and verified knowledge.

Action 2.2. | Organisation of co-participatory activities

This action promotes genuine active participation of citizenship, addressing all age groups and all communities living in the territory.

The activities, also promoted within the framework of initiatives such as the European Researchers' Night and on the occasion of days dedicated to disaster risk reduction, aim to stimulate a common understanding of how the cultural and natural heritage of an area contributes to the development of disaster risk-reduction capacity and resilience. Awareness-raising and involvement activities organized for all citizens will also include foreign residents, in order to configure the project as a replicable and extendable experience in the dimension of inclusiveness.

Action 2.3 | Towards an experience of Citizen Science

Finally, Action 2.3 will work on the development of a mobile device application dedicated to cultural heritage at risk on a territorial scale, to involve citizens as an active part of the research project (Guidelines for the Development of Citizen Science in Italy).

Working in synergy with professionals operating in emergency conditions, we will try to make the APP an instructive tool for users, also considering different levels of interaction and involvement.
