Organic luminescent materials

Purely organic luminescent materials constitute an attractive field of research,  because of their potential applications in optoelectronic devices. The development of stable and highly fluorescent materials is an appealing and challenging task. Another important aspect is the study of the rare occurrence of phosphorescence in purely organic materials at room temperature. In fact, phosphorescence is an optical phenomenon generally characteristic of inorganic and organometallic compounds.

Crystal Engineering represents a novel and promising approach for the solid state control of the optical features of emitting molecules. Within this strategy co-crystallization of organic units with suitable co-formers has proved successful in the modification of emission colour, enhancement of fluorescence quantum yields, and in obtainment up phosphorescence at RT.
