Lac2Lab is a SIAVS, i.e. an innovative social startup, which develops innovative additives for the Life Science industry, made from milk that is either expired or about to expire: such waste milk is supplied by large retailers and producers and would otherwise go to waste.
Circular economy
Lac2Lab produces a Serum to be used as a nutrient for cell cultures instead of the widely used Fetal Bovine Serum (FBS), which is not only extremely unethical – in fact, every year, more than 2 million bovine foetuses are killed worldwide to produce FBS – but also costs up to thousands of euros per litre.
Unsold milk is still a valuable raw material, which can be converted into food for cells grown in the laboratory or in bioreactors. By using cell culture techniques, it can be used for various applications, for example in cancer research and for developing drugs and vaccines.
