GREEN TIPPING is a 5-year ERC Consolidator grant that investigates the effectiveness of "Social Tipping Interventions" to increase mitigation effort.

To this end, the team combines insights from game theory, economic surveys, laboratory and field experiments.

The focus is on environmentally relevant choices and behaviors, to identify cost-effective and scalable interventions with the potential to overcome inertia and catalyze a shift towards climate-friendly behaviors.

The project has 4 main objectives resulting in 4 modules:
1. Posit: Identify preconditions for green tipping → Adoption thresholds & potential for norm change
2. Test: Evaluate Social Tipping Interventions (STI) performance at scale → Increased climate contributions & policy support
3. Refine: Calibrate models, improve STI, identify susceptible targets to maximize intervention efficacy
4. Validate: Assess tipping potential in the field → Role of STI in instigating change among the (un)treated

GREEN TIPPING started in September 2023 and will run through 2028. It is conducted by an international research team based at the Department of Economics of the University of Bologna, Italy.
