Food Supply Chain Director

 

Full professor of Logistics and Manufacturing Systems. Research activity on design, management and optimization of complex production systems. A special focus on storage and warehousing systems, logistics of perishable products, food supply chain, Industry 5.0, maintenance engineering and predictive maintenance, physical distribution, packaging, environmental sustainability

Director of the Food Supply Chain Center, focuses on research activities on cyber-physical digital-twin for the simulation of the package/product life cycle, automation of packaging and case picking, life cycle assessment (LCA)

Director of the Warehosuing Center, focused on virtualization and optimization of material flows in intra-logistics, automation of material handling (autonomous mobile robots - AMR), digital twin, AI and machine learning.

Prof. Riccardo Accorsi, Ph.D.

Since October 2021, he has been an Associate Professor at the University of Bologna. His research focuses on Industrial Engineering, specifically the design, management, and optimization of industrial manufacturing and distribution networks, as well as logistic systems. His area of interest includes sustainable operations management in the manufacturing and food industries. The research methods he employs are part of the broad discipline of Decision Science, encompassing computer science, mathematical programming, optimization models and methods, simulation, data analytics, and machine learning. He collaborates with well-known international research centers such as the Georgia Institute of Technology, San Francisco State University, Catholica Universidad de Chile, CSIRO, CSIR, and Wageningen and Lund University. Additionally, he heads the board of the Food & Wine Supply Chain Council (FWSCC) and has authored several publications in journals, book chapters, and conference proceedings.
