Guide to managing absences and recouping hours

Attendance of teaching activities

Participation in the teaching activities of the Collegio Superiore is compulsory. Attendance is also checked for those following the lessons online via Microsoft Teams.

In what circumstances is it possible to be absent from lessons?

Absences are permitted only in the cases listed below and within the specified time limits:

  • Integrated courses: two hours per module for each twenty-four-hour learning activity (maximum six hours in total).
  • Seminars: two hours of lectures or four hours of laboratory activity.
  • Laboratories for transferable skills: two hours of lectures and four hours of practical work.

When and how to notify an absence

Absences must be notified before the end of the lesson by e-mail. The communication should be sent to the Course Lecturer, copying in the Tutor and the Administration Office of the Collegio.

If the email is not sent, the absence will be considered as requiring justification and to be made up, according to the same arrangements as per absences that exceed the maximum permitted limit.

Managing absences that exceed the permitted limit

If the threshold is exceeded, the absence must be notified and justified. You must propose recouping the hours in accordance with the procedures provided.

The proposal for recouping hours

The proposal for recouping hours must be agreed in advance with the Coordinator or the Lecturer of the learning activity and with the Tutor, in order to define appropriate arrangements and content. Once agreed, the request must be sent by e-mail to the Administration Office of the Collegio, copying in the Director, the Coordinator or Lecturer and the Tutor.

In the communication, it is necessary to indicate clearly the number of hours to be made up and the replacement teaching content.

Approval of the proposal

  • The Director approves the hours to be made up, which can be fulfilled by attending other teaching activities of the Collegio or by taking part in the ISA Lectures of the Institute of Advanced Studies.
  • The Coordinator or Lecturer checks that the alternative content is academically consistent and proposes the most appropriate solution, including in relation to the final examination.
