For PhD students

The call for applications is aimed at first-year PhD students, italian and international, admitted to one of the PhD programs offered by the University of Bologna and who wish to apply to the International PhD College of the Collegio Superiore. Only PhD students who have authorised the transfer of their personal data to the Collegio Superiore Administration Office when applying for the university PhD program, or subsequently via email to the Administration Office, may submit an application.

For the academic year 2026/2027, a selection will be held for 10 places, usually divided into five for the Scientific and Technological Area and five for the Humanities and Social Sciences Area.

You can apply via the Studenti Online service, using the credentials created when applying for the PhD program. Applicants must provide the required information and upload the documents specified in the call of applications.

This stage is based on the evaluation of the following submitted documents: curriuculum vitae et studiorum, statement of purposes, short proposal for a possible interdisciplinary project, abstract of the Master's degree thesis (if any) or summary a research/internship project.

The interview, conducted in Italian or English, assesses the candidate’s intellectual and cultural background, the originality of the proposed solutions, and the ability to present and discuss the qualifications submitted.

For the 2026/2027 academic year, students admitted to the International PhD College will benefit from:

• accommodation from November 1, 2026 to October 31, 2027 in a residence, with the option of a single room with private bathroom and shared kitchen at the Collegio Superiore Irnerio Residence (1 place available) or a studio apartment at the Castellaccio Residence (6 places available);
• the allocation of a financial contribution as partial reimbursement for housing rental expenses, covering 90% of the monthly rent in one of the municipalities listed in Annex A (available in the “Attachments” section at the bottom of this page), and not exceeding €500.00 per month, for a maximum of 12 months, during the period November 1, 2026 to October 31, 2027. PhD students who wish to claim this benefit must not receive other forms housing-related financial support tied to their enrolment in the academic year 2026/2027.

Further information on the allocation of these benefits will be provided in a dedicated notice between October and November 2026.
