The Centro Ricerche Archeologiche e Scavi di Torino was funded in 1963 with the aim of ensuring the correct management and protection of the Cultural Heritage, reconstructing the historical contexts investigated, and presenting its scientific results to the public. Over the years, CRAST has developed research programs on historical and archaeological topics, supported by several completed and active projects in different countries in the western Mediterranean (Italy, Tunisia), southwestern Asia (Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq), Iran, and Central Asia (Turkmenistan, Pakistan). In particular, Iraq has represented the core of the organisation’s interests and activities, with constant archaeological investigations and the participation to international rescue projects on sites threatened by the construction of large water reservoirs in the north of the country.
