How can we ensure a safe environment for studying and working? A risk assessment starts by carefully analysing the activities, environments, tools and substances used.
Legislative Decree 81/08 describes the risk assessment process as a “comprehensive and documented assessment of all risks to the health and safety of workers within the organisation in which they operate, with the aim of identifying preventive and protective measures and planning actions to ensure the improvement of health and safety levels over time”.
The process starts by carefully analysing the activities, environments, tools, substances and materials used, in order to identify hazards, aka risk factors. By using different methods depending on the hazard, the risk is estimated, i.e. how likely it is that a certain hazard actually materialises, causing damage.
The findings are then recorded in the Risk Assessment Document (Documento di Valutazione dei Rishi, DVR), together with the preventive and protective measures to be taken for proper mitigation.
The DVR must be simple, short and easy to read, so that it can be used as an operational tool for planning improvement actions.
