Between 3 and 4 May 2024, the LIFE NatuReef team, led by Prof. Ponti and including Eva Turicchia, Martina Franchini, Elena Manfredini, and Federica Chippari, worked on and, in some cases, dived into the preliminary study of the seabed and marine communities. The main aim of the preliminary study is to provide knowledge on the current state of the marine habitats and species present in the area at the Bevano river mouth. During these two days, samples were collected to characterize the sediments, and the composition and spatial patterns of macrobenthic species in the study area. In addition, sediment, surface water and bottom water samples were collected to search for traces of environmental DNA. Additional surface water samples were collected to study the phytoplankton community. Students and researchers are now working in the lab to analyze all the samples.
