This session explores some aspects and pitfalls of different forms of political dissent as practices. For this reason, while we will not focus on specific ideologies, we will engage in discussions on our own stance towards dissent, explore the pitfalls of disinformation and experience how to express our own aware dissent through critical storytelling. At the end of the session we will have gained more self-confidence and self-awareness on our position as (dissenting) storytellers.

After a brief introduction on dissent and literature, the session will provide an overview of the variety of practices that dissenters have been using to contest hegemonic views: activism, marches, graffiti, petitions, and many more. The session will then focus on forms of dissent that have become institutionalized and, therefore, have lost their disruptive power. Contributions from activists from Spain and Chile will stimulate interactive debate among participants, who will also be invited to discuss their own involvement in dissenting practices.

The second part of the session will explore the delicate balance of dissent and information. In particular, it will focus on post truth and disinformation, how they work and how to tackle them to become aware dissenters.

The afternoon workshop will focus on critical storytelling and how to write our own dissenting stories.
