Presentation on TheGAME at the Society for Geographical Studies Day

Claudio Minca presented on "The Route" at the "Trajectories"-themed Study Day

  • Date: 15 DECEMBER 2025

  • Event location: Rimini, Italy

Claudio took part in the 15th edition of the 'Beyond Globalisation' conference, which was held on 15 December 2025 at the University of Bologna's Rimini campus. The event was organised by the Società di Studi Geografici.

During the panel discussion entitled 'Trajectories, Routes, Traces: Rethinking the Spatialisation of Migration,' Claudio presented a paper entitled 'La rotta balcanica e la silenziosa ‘politica del bando’ dei migranti a Trieste.' This presentation stemmed from the ERC TheGAME project and examined the geographical dynamics of containment policies along the Balkan Route.

Claudio illustrated the various interpretations of the term 'route' among migrants who had reached Trieste, and discussed the 'Silos' informal camp, active between 2018 and 2024, as an example of a site where migrants were 'abandoned' and forced to live in extremely challenging and precarious conditions. This case prompted reflection on the related 'politics of exclusion', which is characterised by slow and indirect violence and has a significant impact on migrants' experiences of this route.
