Emma Beatrice Farina presented a paper at the 1st Italian Conference on Archaeology of the Contemporary Age (30 November - 1 December) at the University of Pisa. The conference was hosted and organised by the MAPPA lab of the University of Pisa in collaboration with the University of Bari. It brought together archaeologists and scholars from different disciplines to discuss a wide variety of themes and methodologies concerning the archaeology of the contemporary age, and to establish an Italian scientific community committed to this subfield.
Emma's paper, “The Game Project: An archaeological approach to informal mobilities along the Balkan Route” (“Un approccio archeologico alle mobilità informali lungo la rotta dei Balcani”), was included in the session “Traces in the Present” chaired by Francesca Anichini (University of Pisa). The contribution introduced the ERC project and illustrated the effectiveness of archaeological methodologies to study contemporary migrations and in particular makeshift camps.
