Vasiliki Makrygianni participated in the workshop ‘Hostility by Design’
Date:
Event location: University of Maastricht, Netherlands
On June 12 and 13 Vasiliki Makrygianni participated in the workshop ‘Hostility by Design’, organised by Prof. Sally Wyat within the Science, Technology and Society Studies Research Programme (MUSTS) and Department of Society Studies (DSS) at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASoS) University of Maastricht. Vasiliki contributed to Session 4 ‘Borders: Fences and Other Non-Humans’ and talked on ‘Navigating the Eastern Aegean Border Archipelago: Grey Zones and Black Holes by Design’. Vasiliki’s talk contributed to introducing key parameters, such as geography, place, and scale, into discussions on the production and design of space. The workshop offered a valuable opportunity to engage with prominent STS scholars working at the intersection of technology, society, refugee camps, and border regimes, among other critical topics. The collective activities organized as part of the workshop created an excellent space for knowledge exchange and dissemination among researchers from diverse institutions across India, Australia, the UK, Switzerland, and various EU countries. The outcomes of the workshop will be captured in a forthcoming open-access edited volume.
