Research project: Development of a surface cloak/wave guide for seismic waves

Since May 2020, Marie Curie research fellow-ITN INSPIRE project (https://itn-inspire.eu), based at the University of Bologna (UNIBO).

2014-2019, School of Civil Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), where he graduated in July 2019 (5-year Diploma) with a  thesis in the field of Computational Mechanics, including Boundary and Finite Element Techniques for the local Buckling Analysis of Beams, under the supervision of Prof. Evangelos Sapountzakis. During his undergraduate studies, he co-authored and presented two papers at national and international conferences. He has also interned with G. Papamichail Mitakidi & Partners Architectural Design Office, based on Psychico, Athens.

His research interests are in Structural and Soil Dynamics, as well as Wave propagation combined with Meta-materials and Mathematical Models. He believes that Meta-materials are a novel idea that can be implemented in the Soil-Foundation-Structure principles, creating a bulwark for the future structures.

Research project: Transducers and Sensor-near Signal Processing for SHM of Composite Structures

Since November 2020: Marie Curie Actions ITN Ph.D. Fellow in the GW4SHM project (http://gw4shm.eu) at the University of Bologna.

January 2018 - August 2020: Research assistant at K.N. Toosi University of Technology

The main activity can be divided into three categories: 1) Wave propagation and frequency analysis of composite materials, especially for nanocomposite cylindrical shells  2) Structural health monitoring and control (buildings, bridges, dams, thermal and wind power plants) through vibration-based approaches  3) Seismic assessment of buildings (machine learning approach, simulation)

January 2017 - August 2019: Teaching Assistant on Random Vibrations, K.N Toosi University of Technology.

October 2014 - September 2017: Master’s Degree in Structural and Earthquake Engineering with a GPA of 3.9/4, K.N. Toosi University of Technology. Thesis: “Numerical and experimental assessment of vibration-based damage detection methods.” The thesis contains numerical and experimental parts focusing on the vibration-based SHM techniques, namely FE model updating, time-frequency analysis (Wavelet transform, Hilbert transform), modal strain energy, digital image correlation, optimal sensor placement, etc. The experimental tests were carried out using both commercial and low-cost MEMS accelerometers. Seismic damage detection was also investigated using a novel methodology.

October 2010 - September 2014: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Bu-Ali Sina University. The application of MATLAB in civil engineering practices was investigated.
