Analytical Pyrolysis

Pyrolysis used as analytical method

Analytical pyrolysis is the technique which indirectly analyses a material from its thermal degradation products occurred in sub-stoichiometric oxidation conditions or in absence of oxidiser agent. The produced products can be adsorbed or detained for latter analysis (off-line analytical pyrolysis) or directly conveyed into a detector (online analytical pyrolysis). In our laboratories we have different pyrolysis equipment to perform both online and off-line pyrolysis coupled with gaschromatography mass spectrometry used to separate and quantitatively and qualitatively determine the evolved compounds.  These equipments allows to perform investigation concerning:

  • Pyrolysis product investigation;
  • Catalysts evaluation;
  • Organic pollutant determination;
  • Microplastic detection and classification
  • etc.

Development of analytical pyrolysis as a tool for characterization of natural occurring compounds and materials from thermochemical decomposition/degradation is one of our main activity which include study on biomass, plastic materials, microplastics, catalyst investigation, and more.
