Consultancy and applied research services

The Group is involved in industrial research contracts and collaborations with companies through the Department of Chemistry ‘Giacomo Ciamician’, the Interdepartmental Research Center for Research in  Environmental Sciences (CIRSA) and the Interdepartmental Industrial Research Center Energy and Environment (CIRI) of the University of Bologna.

Consultancy services are aimed at supporting from a technological-scientific point of view the companies which work in the fields of chemical processes and synthesis, environmental services and analysis, and energy and manufacturing productions.


Specifically, we can:

  • Develop new  or improved analytical methodologies for process or environmental purposes
  • Characterize organic materials, wastes in term of possible valorization (conversion to high value material, fuel or chemicals)
  • Perform chemical analysis and develop new analytical techniques for the detection  of pollutants in the environment and specific chemical intermediates and products in industrial processes
  • Test and prototyping of  new conversion concepts tailored on specific organic waste
  • Provide consultancy on pyrolysis from chemical point of view in the field of pyrolysis equipment realizations

  • Bio-methanation and fermentation (for volatile fatty acids and ethanol) test

  • Eco-toxicity Tests (freshwater algae, crustacean, bacteria, worms, cell lines)


Process demonstration facilities

  • Micro-scale automated Pyrolyzer: 1 mg scale pyrolyzer for screening purpose
  • Off-line Pyrolyzer: 1-10 mg scale pyrolyzer for screening purpose
  • Bench scale Pyrolyzer: 10-100g batch pyrolyzer.
  • Pyrolyser prototype  continuous single screw pyrolyzer

  • Germination test room.
  • External space for technology demostration.
  • 3D printer for new material testing and rapid prototyping.
