On Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 June 2025, the second ante operam (pre-intervention) characterization campaign was carried out in the marine area where the oyster reef will be created as part of the LIFE NatuReef project. The team, coordinated by Prof. Massimo Ponti from the BiGeA Department of the University of Bologna, conducted dives to collect sediment samples and study the macrobenthic communities present on the seafloor.
Eva Turicchia, Bayan Kassar, Clelia Fumagalli, and Caterina Ingrassia joined Prof. Ponti in the field activities. This work represents a crucial step in assessing the ecological status of the area before the installation of the artificial reef.
Students and researchers are now working in the laboratory to analyze the collected samples, with the aim of obtaining valuable data for future monitoring and planning activities.
