Event location: Venezia
The LIFE NatuReef project was presented at the 2025 Venice Architecture Biennale during the conference “Rethinking the Future of Coastal In/Formal Settlements – Italian Case Studies Compared”, dedicated to the challenges and prospects of Italian coastal territories.
The event, organized by CRAFT – Competence Centre on Anti-Fragile Territories of the Department of Architecture and Urban Studies at Politecnico di Milano, brought together experts, researchers, and institutional representatives to discuss innovative models for the adaptation and regeneration of coastal areas affected by erosion and environmental transformations.
Among the five Italian case studies presented, the Ravenna coastal area was featured, with contributions from Aida Morelli, President of the Po Delta Park, Stefano Ravaioli, and Vittoria Mencarini representing the Municipality of Ravenna.
During the seminar, the Po Delta Park and the Municipality of Ravenna presented the objectives and actions of the LIFE NatuReef project, which foresees the creation of an underwater barrier at the Bevano River mouth.
The discussion focused on the experimental solution developed within LIFE NatuReef, combining scientific research and environmental protection to propose a new approach to coastal resilience. The planned installation at the Bevano mouth will be a concrete example of how nature-based solutions can serve as effective tools for climate change adaptation, while also enhancing the ecological richness of the Ravenna coastline.
