LIFE NatuReef Awarded at the 54th Guidarello Prize for Quality Journalism

The LIFE NatuReef project was honored at the 54th edition of the Guidarello Prize for Quality Journalism, one of the most prestigious awards in the Romagna region dedicated to excellence in communication and journalism. The ceremony took place on Saturday, 29 November at the Alighieri Theatre in Ravenna, during the event organised by Confindustria Romagna.

The prize in the Audiovisual Section was awarded to Massimo Ponti and Renata Archetti for presenting the LIFE NatuReef project on the RAI 3 programme Geo, aired on 31 January 2025.
During the interview, the two researchers illustrated the innovative aspects of the project, which involves the creation of a submerged reef composed of native oysters and sabellariid worms, with the aim of:

  • restoring underwater habitats,
  • enhancing biodiversity,
  • protecting the coastline from storm surges and erosion,
  • supporting climate adaptation without the use of artificial barriers.

The motivation of the jury highlights the scientific and outreach value of the televised feature, which successfully raised public awareness of the importance of nature-based solutions in the restoration and protection of coastal ecosystems.

The project’s participation in the Guidarello Prize represents an important acknowledgment of the work carried out by the LIFE NatuReef team and all partners involved, reinforcing the link between research, the local area, and environmental communication.
