LIFE NatuReef at GEO

Professor Renata Archetti and Professor Massimo Ponti, guests of the GEO program on Rai 3, interviewed by Sveva Sagramola, talk about the LIFE NatuReef project.

  • Date: 31 JANUARY 2025  from 17:00 to 19:00

Coordinator Massimo Ponti and Renata Archetti, guests of the GEO episode, illustrate the characteristics of the project that aims to protect the coast and increase marine biodiversity through the creation of natural reefs of oysters and sabellaria off the mouth of the Bevano stream.

The idea of safeguarding the coast no longer through artificial barriers in the sea, but rather by restoring the ancient natural environments that have now disappeared, represents a real paradigm shift, the distinctive and most innovative feature of the project.

The work is currently being designed. The laying of the limestone base and its repopulation will take place in the coming months. The project is funded by the European Commission and involves a team of over 70 specialists from various sectors including biologists, ecologists, geologists, engineers and topographers with the University of Bologna, lead partner, together with the Municipality of Ravenna, Fondazione Flaminia, Parco del Delta del Po, Proambiente SCRL and the Reef Check Italia ETS association.
