Internship

The purpose our internship is to provide the students with multidisciplinary and practical skills, that can be used both in academia and in industry.

1) INTERNSHIP PROJECT

The internship project is linked to the purposes of the Lab (e.g. empirical research, the creation and annotation of digital resources, etc.).

Trainees may perform the following tasks:

- supporting the researchers in the collection and annotation of spoken and written data for the developed resources (corpora, databases, lexicons, digital critical editions, etc.);

- supporting the researchers during behavioral experiments;

- supporting the planning of training events;

- organizing the documentation for management of the Lab, including the collection of thematic bibliographies, with the help of citation software.

  

2) EDUCATIONAL GOALS

The goal of the training program is the acquisition of multidisciplinary skills that can be used in industry and in academia.

Examples:

- elicitation techniques for the collection of textual, audio and video data, and the related privacy policy management;

- use of advanced softwares for the automatic data processing;

- storage and search management of language data;

- sentiment analysis, data mining, lexical computing.

 

3) PLACE OF TRAINING

The training activity takes place mainly at the Experimental Lab, which is supplied with all the necessary tools. Each trainee is assigned one or more tasks, based on the Lab needs and her/his skills and interests.

Trainees are trained by experienced tutors and supervised by Francesca Masini, responsible for the Lab.

  

4) ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS

The internship is open to all students enrolled in LILEC degree courses:

- Foreign languages and Literatures: 225h, 9CFU

- Languages, markets and cultures of Asia and Mediterranean Africa: 225H, 9 CFU

- Language, Society and Communication: 225h, 9 CFU 

- Italian language and culture for foreigners: 150H, 6 CFU

-  Modern, comparative and postcolonial literature: 150H, 6 CFU

 

PLEASE NOTE: 

Due to logistic issues, the Experimental Laboratory can host a limited number of trainees, selected through an interview. Students applying for this internship should prove a keen interest in empirical research and the use of IT applications for research in Humanities. Priority will be given to students who have attended computational linguistics or psycholinguistics classes, as part of their study plans.
