The Workshop on the Behavioural Dimensions of Climate Change brings together leading international researchers to advance a shared agenda at the intersection of behavioural economics and climate policy. Spanning experiments, surveys, and theory, its aim is to build understanding — and community — around the role that behaviour, expectations, and coordination play in shaping how the low-carbon transition unfolds.

The Workshop is co-organized by the Department of Economics of the University of Bologna at the School of Economics, Management and Statistics, the BELIEFS project and the GREEN TIPPING project

BELIEFS (2025–2030) investigates how climate-related beliefs shape investment decisions and the dynamics of the low-carbon transition. The project combines surveys, experiments, empirical analysis, and dynamic macroeconomic modelling to develop new data and analytical tools. Our goal is to understand how transition expectations form, how they affect decarbonisation, and which policies can better align economic actors’ expectations with climate targets.

GREEN TIPPING is a 5-year project on how targeted social tipping interventions can spur sustainable choices. To this end, the international team combines game theory, economic surveys, lab and field experiments. We focus on environmentally relevant choices and behaviors, to identify cost-effective and scalable interventions with the potential to overcome mitigation inertia and catalyze a shift towards climate-friendly behaviors.
