Welcome to BELIEFS!

The BELIEFS project investigates the role of firms’ expectations in the transition to a low-carbon economy, emphasizing how perceptions about the future of decarbonisation shape investment decisions. These expectations are often heterogeneous, dynamic, and subject to biases, and their misalignment with climate goals can hinder or destabilize the transition.

BELIEFS develops a new dynamic modelling framework that integrates behavioural, economic, and political dimensions, supported by large-scale surveys and laboratory experiments. Focusing on the European context, the project will generate novel data and analytical tools to improve the effectiveness and credibility of climate policies, align economic actors’ expectations with policy targets, and ultimately enable a swift and orderly path to climate neutrality.
