Action 3a: Hydraulic geometry

i) Hydraulic geometry

The characterization of the hydraulic geometry and the shear stress of the current to the bankfull condition has been obtained through a series of transversal sections conducted respectively in 11 reaches (from A to M going from mountain to valley) of the main course of the Sillaro River and along 3 reaches of two tributaries, the Osso Stream and the Acquabona Stream (Fig. 3.1).

For each reach selected, we measured five different sections spaced between them by a distance proportional to the local channel width, for a total of 70 sections.

The location of these sections was selected to represent all the topographical, geological, hydrological and morphological conditions of the study area, in order to examine the variability of the hydraulic conditions of the channel, as preliminary preparation for the analysis of the bedload transport (Tab. 3.1). Among these, reaches D (Fig. 3.2) and G (Fig. 3.3) have been selected for monitoring channel topography and bedload transport.
