History and members

The LBC-CeSLiC Research Unit has been active since March 2018 at the Center of Linguistic-Cultural studies (CeSLiC) of the LILEC Department in Bologna, as part of the research project “Multilingual Cultural Heritage Lexicon” (LBC).

The LBC project, launched in 2013, is a research spin-off  of the LBC Research Unit of the LILSI Department (Language, Literatures, and Intercultural Studies) at the University of Florence. It promotes studies, research, scientific and cultural events focused on the lexicon of the artistic heritage of the city of Florence, which is considered as a model of the Italian Città d’Arte (City of Art). The main goal of the project, contributes to the current development of Digital Humanities and is focused on the creation of a corpus-based, electronic multilingual dictionary of cultural heritage lexicon.

The LBC research group brings together academic staff, language instructors (lettori) and PhD students at the University of Florence and other universities, both in Italy (Bologna, Modena and Reggio Emilia, Pisa, Roma La Sapienza, University for Foreigners of Siena, Turin) and abroad (Geneva, Lisbon, Tirana, Ryerson University in Toronto). The project is organized into different linguistic teams, each relating to the source language (Italian) and eight target languages (Chinese, French, English, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, German, Turkish).
