Memories from the Territory aims to analyse the landscape as a 'narrative tool', focusing specifically on the 2016 earthquake.
The landscape and the communities that inhabit it both preserve numerous stories and identities. Furthermore, they both bear symbols in the form of both objects and places which tell the story of the past and can form the basis for future regeneration, ensuring community resilience.
We believe that combining the disciplines of Landscape Archaeology, Anthropology and Cultural Geography will enable us to reveal all these elements. The different working methods of these disciplines will be employed to investigate the histories of places abandoned following the 2016 seismic events. This will be possible also thanks to the collaboration agreements in place with the Municipality of Ascoli Piceno and the National Archaeological Museum of Ascoli Piceno, and the mutual exchange with the Soprintendenza Archeologia, Belle Arti e Paesaggio for the provinces of Ascoli Piceno, Fermo and Macerata.
Our goal is to highlight the network of knowledge and values embedded in the history, places, and routes of these mountain landscapes, which are custodians of a shared historical memory.
