On July 3–4, 2025, the IV Congreso Internacional sobre Derechos de la Naturaleza en el Mediterráneo took place at the Facultat de Dret of the Universitat de València—a key international forum on ecocentric law, climate crisis, and environmental justice.

Representing the LUMEN project was Amilcare D’Andrea, research fellow from the University of Bologna unit, with a presentation titled:
La Constitución económica en la implementación de las normas sobre los derechos de la Naturaleza. El caso Los Cedros y su referencia al Buen Vivir.

D’Andrea explored the role of the Economic Constitution in the application of legal norms on the rights of nature, focusing on the landmark Los Cedros case in Ecuador. His contribution aligns closely with LUMEN’s mission to rethink European public law in light of ongoing environmental and social transformations.

It was a privilege to take part in such a necessary critical dialogue,” he stated. “I return with new questions—and a renewed conviction that another, ecological and transformative, form of law is not only possible, but essential.

Among the other speakers was Ramiro Ávila Santamaría (Universidad Andina Simón Bolívar, Ecuador), with a presentation on “The Rights of Nature, Thermodynamics, Metabolism, and Climate Crisis: A View from the Cities.” Ávila was recently featured in a LUMEN interview series highlighting leading international voices in ecological legal transformation.
